1957 Metropolitan, my first old car
I bought it in Boulder in 1976 and used it for my daily driver until 1984. I was told it belonged to the night watchman at the Rocky Flats Atom Bomb trigger plant. In Colorado, I kept golf clubs and skis in it and would take it golfing in the summer and drive up to Eldora in the winter to ski. After I moved to Endicott, I took a body shop course at BOCES and decided I did not want to paint. I had rebuilt the engine and spiffed up the engine compartment, but the body was alittle beat up just from life, and from the class at BOCES. I took out the interior and took it to a body shop to paint. It was kind of a backwards restoration, but eventually it went on to win an AACA Grand National Senior then a repeat AGNM Senior and a Met Club Gold for being authentic. It has spent time at Northeast Classic Car Museum and is still one of my nicer restorations.
